Who Our Volunteers Are and What They Do

Volunteer positions are identified by Cardinal Glennon departments based on the needs in each respective area.

Direct patient care opportunities include visiting in the rooms, interacting in a play or activity area, reading books and transporting patients.

Other areas where volunteers contribute include the gift shop, reception desk, mail room, library, storeroom and waiting rooms.

Adults

Adult volunteers age 18 or older make a commitment to volunteer at least once a week, for three or more hours. Sixty hours total service is required.

University Students

We welcome applications from area college students. They must be available to volunteer weekly, for a minimum of two hours a week.

High School Students

High school students must be at least 17 years old and have completed their junior year to serve in patient care areas. Volunteer hours can be counted toward senior service projects, but a minimum of 60 hours is required, and volunteers must have a school release program that allows them to volunteer between 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM for two to three consecutive weeks.

High school students who are 16 years old may volunteer in non-patient care areas, such as the gift shop, reception desk, mail room and library. some after school and evening positions are available.

Summer Volunteers

Summer volunteers are needed Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM. Those who have volunteered during previous summers and hospital employees’ family members are given priority during this time when volunteer positions are in high demand. However, if any spaces are available, we will consider new applications.
