Mission & Values

Our Mission

Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God.

Our Values

From the trauma rooms to the cafeteria line, our employees strive each day to serve our patients and families in accordance with the philosophy and values of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary. We value the sacredness and dignity of each person, no matter how small or young. Therefore, we find these five values consistent with both our heritage and ministerial priorities:

We reach out with
openness, kindness
and concern.

We honor the
wonder of the
human spirit.

We expect the
best of ourselves
and one another.

We use our resources

We cultivate relationships
that inspire us to serve.

These five words best describe how we treat your child and family, and they are why we are one of the best pediatric health care institutions in the country. We believe that our caring and commitment to the whole child and family also set us apart and make for the best possible outcomes for your child's situation.

At SSM Cardinal Glennon, we care for children and their families with knowledge and expertise, understanding and patience, and always with respect. Our pediatricians, nurses and other health care professionals are trained to care specifically for children. Playrooms on patient floors give kids a needed break from their hospital rooms, and Volunteers and Child Life specialists make sure every day is new and refreshing.

We are committed not only to healing children today, but also finding new ways to help them get well in the future. At our Pediatric Research Institute, physicians and other researchers combine their expertise in different specializations to find cures for diseases that affect children. The St. Louis Cord Blood Bank located at SSM Cardinal Glennon is the second largest in the world, and provides hope each day for patients through the miracle of umbilical cord blood stem cell research and treatment, a pain-free and non-controversial source for life-saving stem cells.
