Family Support

At the St. Louis Fetal Care Institute, we strive to reduce your anxiety and help you feel comfortable during your complicated pregnancy. Our team will work closely with you and your obstetrician to quickly form a comprehensive treatment plan designed for your specific fetal challenges. Because many of our patients travel to take advantage of our world-class treatment options and facilities, we typically schedule your tests and consultations in a single day. For your convenience, our nurse coordinator is available to assist with travel and accommodations for your visit. Our caring staff understands that a complicated pregnancy can affect you in many ways.

Most initial consultations occur at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center in St. Louis. Testing and other procedures may take place at St. Mary’s or SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. While most fetal surgeries are performed at St. Mary’s, our SSM transport team is always ready to rush your baby to our neonatal experts at Cardinal Glennon, if necessary.
The St. Louis Fetal Care Institute is dedicated to providing emotional support and compassionate care to the parents and families we serve. Through our Footprints program, a team is available to help families with the everyday struggles that accompany a high-risk pregnancy or a sick child. Footprints can offer support to families through every step of their care at the St. Louis Fetal Care Institute. Recognize that you are not alone. We can also put you in contact with other families who have undergone similar experiences.

Fetal intervention is a decision that must be discussed thoroughly so the family has considered how they might be affected. Patients who are candidates for fetal surgery are encouraged to discuss their thoughts and questions with a social worker and members of our team. The family should discuss their choices with their doctor, family and friends to come to the decision that is right for them. Our team understands this is a difficult process for a family, and we provide support and encouragement as you navigate the process.

We welcome phone calls and emails from physicians and expectant mothers, and our nurse coordinator can facilitate referrals. To learn more, call 314-268-4037 or 877-SSM-FETL (877-776-3385).
